About Council Opticians of Batavia
Council Opticians originated in the City of Buffalo in 1953. The company rapidly expanded in Erie and Niagara counties before coming to Genesee County. Council Opticians of Batavia opened its doors on Main Street Batavia in 1960.
Council Opticians of Batavia is locally owned by Dr. Robert E. Gouinlock. Over the years, Council Opticians has gained the reputation for having one of the largest selections of frames and eyeglasses, including designer frames and designer sunglasses in Western New York. We also pride ourselves in having an in-office optical lab, allowing prescription eyeglass lenses to be ground and inserted into your desired frame on-site. This service makes it possible for our skilled opticians, Jon and Kristie, to make your new pair of glasses on the same day you get your eye examination!
Contact lens fitting services are available for previous as well as brand new wearers. We fit all types including daily pairs, two-week and monthly contact lenses. Contacts are now available for patients who have astigmatism, as well as for patients who require bifocal powers for close up vision! An annual supply of contacts can now be conveniently shipped to the patient’s home if desired.
Dr. Gouinlock, often referred to as “Dr. Bob”, provides primary care optometric services for children ages 4 and up and adults of all ages. The comprehensive eye examinations offered look for conditions you may worry about including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Diabetic eye exams as well as special retinal exams for patients who may take high risk medications are also provided. Additionally, Dr. Bob utilizes the state-of-the-art Optos retinal imaging as well as optical coherence tomography (OCT) in medical eye examinations. This special testing is offered in routine eye exams as well.

Robert Gouinlock, OD
Dr. Bob is the optometrist at Council Opticians of Batavia. An Alexander native, Dr. Bob has been with Council Opticians since 1997. He has been the owner of this office since 2012.
A graduate of Alexander Central School, he attended Elmira College where he became a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He double majored in biology and environmental science with a minor in botany. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. During his science studies at Elmira College the decision was made to pursue a career in optometry.
After four years at Elmira, he attended the SUNY College of Optometry in New York City. He graduated with his Doctor of Optometry degree in June of 1997.
Dr. Bob lives in Attica with his wife Becky and two children, Elizabeth and William. When not watching his children at various sporting events around the area, Dr Bob enjoys spending time outdoors. He always seems to find something to do no matter the time of year or the weather condition
Jonathan Scroger- Optician
Jon is a Buffalo native that has become very much at home in the rural setting. He has been licensed for over 30 years after graduating Summa Cum Laude from ECC in 1990 and being their first tutor of theoretical optics. With all of his years of experience, he knows the craft inside and out. Jon prides himself on finding frames that are a correct fit as well as stylish and functional. He currently resides in Attica and is an avid football fan.
Kristie Ball- Optician
Kristie is new in the optician field; however, she has several years of eye care experience as an ophthalmic technician. She has also worked with insurance companies for over 20 years and will make sure that you get the best coverage that your insurance has to offer. With the amazing selection of frames here at Council Opticians of Batavia, she is sure to help you find the pair that is perfect for you. Kristie lives in Perry with her husband Bob.
